Wan Hai Deepens ESG Commitment through Joint Tree-Planting Initiative with Kenting National Park
2025/05/09

Taipei, May. 09, 2025 – Wan Hai Lines has been advancing its Planting Tree Project since 2022, carrying out tree-planting initiatives across Taiwan. Marking its eighth event under the program, Wan Hai partnered with the National Parks Administration to hold a tree-planting activity in Kenting National Park, bringing together employees from the Kaohsiung region and Kenting local schoolchildren. Through hands-on participation and environmental education, the event aimed to raise public awareness of ecological conservation. The event was jointly hosted by Ms. Fei-Fei Chuang, Senior Vice President of Wan Hai Lines; Deputy Director-General Chen Chen-Jung of the National Parks Administration; Mr. Chen Chien-Long, Director of Kenting National Park Headquarters; and Mr. Chao Wen-Hao, Chairman of the Beautiful Taiwan 3D Association. Teachers and students from Shuiquan Elementary School Longquan Branch and Daguang Elementary School Kindergarten were also invited, symbolizing the nurturing of both “young seedlings of the nation” and “seedlings of the environment,” bringing new vitality to Kenting. The tree-planting site, located in the Guanshan area of Kenting, had previously been impacted by the invasive species Leucaena leucocephala. Following its removal, native species were replanted to restore the ecosystem. A total of 200 native tree saplings—such as Terminalia, Barringtonia, Murraya, Sea Hibiscus, Calophyllum, and Soapberry—were planted during the event to help rehabilitate the area’s biodiversity and enhance ecosystem resilience. To date, Wan Hai has planted over 58,000 trees in Kenting, with a long-term goal of 279,000 trees to be planted and maintained by 2031. In addition to the tree-planting, the Beautiful Taiwan 3D Association’s mobile cinema screened Beautiful Taiwan 3D and the Taiwan Superheroes series, offering an immersive audiovisual journey showcasing Taiwan’s rich natural landscapes and the resilience of its people. The screenings aimed to deepen children’s emotional connection to the land. “We’re not just planting trees—we’re planting understanding, appreciation, and a sense of stewardship,” said Fei-Fei Chuang. “By engaging with children, we hope to inspire them to see the beauty of Taiwan and to learn the value of protecting it.” She added that Wan Hai will continue to promote tree planting and ecological conservation and looks forward to working with more organizations to advance environmental sustainability in Taiwan. Environmental protection has long been a core value for Wan Hai. Since launching the “Wan Hai Forest Project” in 2022, the company has partnered with the National Parks Administration, Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency, and NTU Experimental Forest to adopt and care for over 600,000 trees, of which approximately 350,000 have already been planted. These trees are estimated to absorb around 4,200 metric tons of CO₂ annually, reflecting Wan Hai’s steadfast commitment to a sustainable future.
