2024/06/26

Taipei, Jun. 25, 2024 – Wan Hai Lines, in collaboration with the National Park Service, hold a tree planting event at Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park. Local customers, suppliers, and social welfare organizations, along with Wan Hai employees, participated to bring green vitality to the port city. June 25 is also the Day of the Seafarer, and this event showed appreciation and care for seafarers. Environmental protection is one of Wan Hai's core business principles. In addition to striving for environmental protection and efficiency in its shipping operations, Wan Hai is committed to addressing global warming and Taiwan’s ecological conservation. Since the launch of the “Wan Hai Planting Tree” tree planting and reforestation project in 2022, Wan Hai has cooperated with eight national parks under the National Park Service, the Forestry Bureau, and the NTU Experimental Forest. The project has so far planted and maintained over 600,000 trees, of which about 230,000 are fully grown, capturing 2,760 tons of carbon dioxide annually, contributing to the sustainable development of the planet. Wan Hai aims to expand the influence of the “Wan Hai Plating Tree” project through each tree planting event. For this event, Wan Hai specifically invited local customers, suppliers, and social welfare organizations from Kaohsiung. The event was led by Wan Hai Chairman Mr. Chen Po-Ting, National Park Service Director General Mr. Chen Mao-Chun, and Director of the National Natural Park Headquarters Mr. Chang Teng-Wen. Participants planted 200 saplings, including Acacia, Cinnamomum, Ironwood, Maple, and Cassia trees, with the goal of establishing a new ecosystem, spreading the power of goodness, and educating participants on the importance of trees to humanity. This effort encourages more people to consider our symbiotic relationship with nature and to engage in sustainable actions. Kaohsiung Metropolitan Park is located in the second phase of the Xiqingpu landfill. After years of remediation, rehabilitation, and maintenance, it has become a lush, green space ideal for recreation. Wan Hai and the National Park Service plan to plant 5,000 native arbors and shrubs in the park between 2024 and 2028, to increase carbon sequestration, expand urban green spaces, and mitigate the urban heat island effect, thereby positively impacting the urban environment of Kaohsiung. June 25 is also the Day of the Seafarer. In 2023, Wan Hai launched the “Seafarer Carbon Reduction Campaign” to encourage seafarers to adopt environmentally friendly practices in their work and daily lives at sea, fulfilling the shared responsibility of protecting the planet. Wan Hai’s seafarers participated in the tree planting event, symbolically planting carbon-reducing trees and gaining a refreshing connection with nature. Wan Hai is dedicated to ensuring the physical and mental health and safety of its seafarers by providing entertainment facilities, psychological counseling, fatigue testing, and telemedicine services. Since April 2024, Wan Hai has collaborated with the Telemedicine Center of Taipei Medical University Hospital to enhance the quality and efficiency of maritime medical consultations. Seafarers can now use stable and fast internet connections to have video consultations with doctors, receiving professional medical advice and guidance in real-time. In line with Wan Hai’s belief, “We carry, We care,” the company is committed to practicing sustainable business principles and implementing the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity and various Sustainable Development Goals. In the future, Wan Hai will continue to promote energy conservation and carbon reduction, expanding its impact on environmental protection while continuously enhancing care for employees and seafarers. Wan Hai’s vision is to thrive in harmony with society and nature, protecting the environment for current and future generations, and achieving true sustainable development.
